High schooler takes off his helmet and grabs a guitar to sing national anthem

Americans hold a profound reverence for a few things, such as the flag and their veterans. Another significant symbol that commands their respect is the national anthem. Prior to 1931, “The Star Spangled Banner” served as the official hymn of the United States. For those who may not be acquainted with its origins, the lyrics were derived from a poem called “Defence of Fort M’Henry,” penned by an amateur poet named Francis Scott Key in September 1814.

Key observed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore. This significant event, along with the magnificent U.S. flag, served as the inspiration for the creation of the lyrics that every proud American holds dear.

The anthem is performed before every significant event, including sports.

The Arundel High School players in Maryland were preparing for a match when Jackson Dean Nicholson, a senior defensive end, was about to deliver a truly moving rendition of the national anthem that left everyone in awe.

He decided to forgo the loud speakers and opted to take off his helmet, pick up his guitar, and create a magical moment for everyone at the match.

His outstanding performance quickly went viral on the Internet, earning him praise for his singing skills and bravery to take on a challenging and important role in front of a large audience.

This performance took place back in 2018, but the fact that it is still relevant today speaks of how much people loved it.

I had an amazing experience. I reckon I recognized about 90 percent of the folks in the crowd, but they had no clue until I revealed my guitar,” shared Nicholson, who adopted the stage name Jackson Dean after his viral success, in an interview with the Baltimore Sun.

Regarding his football career, he mentioned, “This will be my final year, and then I’ll be finished. I have until January to complete all my credits, and I only need to be enrolled for this semester. My principal granted me a waiver, and she’s incredibly supportive of my pursuits. I’m determined to give it my all.”

Nicholson has been composing and singing songs ever since he started college, and during the period when he sang the national anthem, he was also busy working on his album.

We hope this young man achieves great success in his musical journey.
