Raising kids nowadays can be quite challenging. Besides dealing with family opinions, young parents also have to handle random internet strangers who like to comment on their parenting techniques.
Jordan Driskell is a young dad who has five quintuplets. These quintuplets are currently 5 years old. Taking care of five children who are all the same age can be quite challenging, especially when they are at the age of 5 and full of curiosity and love for exploration.
Jordan Driskell, a 31-year-old father, came up with a clever idea to address his issue. He purchased child leashes to manage his energetic children while out in public.
Previously, Driskell owned a stroller with 6 seats which they used for their large family. However, this became tiresome as the children would get bothered while being inside it. Moreover, the stroller was extremely inconvenient to carry anywhere.
This allows young children to freely wander and discover their surroundings while the family is out, without their father losing sight or control of them, ensuring their safety.
Driskell shared a video of the family trip to the aquarium, which received a lot of criticism towards the parents. The video showing kids on leashes became popular with more than 3 million views. Many people expressed their disapproval, stating that children are not animals and should not be leashed.
ifferent people said , “If you can’t manage the pressure, don’t have so many kids.”
Some people disguised their contempt as helpful suggestions. “Can’t you just properly train your children?” Discuss to them why fleeing is risky.”
Dr. Deborah Gilboa, a specialist in parenting and adolescent development, disagrees. She believes that using a leash on a child does not make them feel like an animal. She also thinks that using a leash is a better choice than staying at home all the time.
Dr. Gilboa mentioned that using a leash can help younger or neuro-diverse children stay safe in public. She also warned that if a neurotypical child is still using a leash at ages eight or nine, it could mean they haven’t learned to listen well, which could cause problems.
By that time, parents will have the ability to communicate effectively with their children using words instead of depending on tools such as leashes.
Parents deserve the right to raise their children as they see fit without being unfairly criticized by society.
