This problem is apparently caused by climate change as some scientists said. They are worried that it could be catastrophic.
Our planet is suffering day by day and these problems can change our lives and our future. Global warming is also a serious issue.
A recent study showed that the planet earth finished an entire rotation of 1.59 milliseconds under 24 hours.
“This would be required to keep civil time—which is based on the super-steady beat of atomic clocks—in step with solar time, which is based on the movement of the Sun across the sky,” Time and Date reported.
A lot of scientists believe that this happening is due to climate change, however, it could be destructive.
Experts measure the earth’s rotation with atomic clocks and those clocks needed some fixing in the last 60 past years as a result of the leaps of 27 seconds since 1970. The results shocked the scientists as the Earth records its shortest day ever.
The Time and Date website informed, “A negative leap second would mean that our clocks skip one second, which could potentially create problems for IT systems,” According to the founders of Facebook this means that the negative leap second can have a “devastating effect” on software relying on precise timers and schedulers and it can do more harm than good.
This change of speed can be due to tides, oceans, temperature, and even inner or outer earth’s layers.
However, at this year’s meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society, scientists like Christian Bizouard, Nikolay Sidorenkov, and Leonid Zotov are going to discuss this matter although they believe that this problem is a “chandler wobble” which means the small and irregular movement of the geographical poles across the surface of the globe.
“The normal amplitude of the Chandler wobble is about three to four meters at Earth’s surface,” Zotov explained for Time and Date. ‘” But from 2017 to 2020 it disappeared.”
