Security cameras capture the moment Nevada grandma dies in gym swimming pool as people walked by unaware

Heartbreaking video footage shows the moment a grandmother floated lifelessly in a pool while other clueless swimmers walked by.

Leticia Gonzalez Triplett, 58, tragically passed away on February 4, 2024, after swimming at the North Decatur Las Vegas Athletic Club.

According to a report by 8NewsNow, Oganna Brown, an attorney for the LVAC gym, revealed that Triplett arrived on crutches before getting into the pool.

For 25 minutes, she struggled to remain above water, holding on to the side of the pool as she kicked her legs.

A surveillance camera, shared by News.com.au, captured the moment several people walked around Triplett while she was fighting for her life. This continued even as she drowned.

It has not been disclosed whether the grandma called for help during her struggle as the other people seemed to be clueless about her situation.

It’s been claimed that no one noticed Triplet for about 10 minutes, even though she was floating in the pool face down.

She wasn’t pulled out of the pool until an unnamed swimmer saw her and dove in. The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) investigation report notes that an LVAC employee performed CPR on the woman before paramedics arrived.

Triplett was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Brown alleged that Triplett’s death was from “cardiac arrest,” and claimed that the gym hasn’t seen a similar incident in decades.

“In 46 years, there has not been a drowning event,” Brown said. “This is an anomaly, and this was not a direct drowning event. This was a cardiac arrest.”

However, SNHD alleged that there was another near-drowning event at the pool a few days after Triplett’s death, as reported by 8NewsNow.

Joel Henriod, an attorney for SNHD, alleged that there was no lifeguard on duty when the victim passed away. He also contended that it wasn’t the other swimmers’ job to notice her struggle.

“It’s not their job to be looking,” he said. “Unfortunately, you might as well be alone.”

According to Triplett’s obituary, she served 24 years in the US Air Force after enlisting following her high school graduation.

“She was stationed in Albuquerque, NM, Alamogordo NM, San Angelo, TX, Las Vegas, NV, South Korea, and the Azores Islands. In 2008, she did a tour in Afghanistan,” it states. “She received many medals and ribbons for her outstanding service.”

The late woman is survived by her son and five grandchildren. “She always remembered birthdays and was the first one to send a birthday card,” the obituary continues. “She enjoyed spending time at home and watching her favorite TV shows. She also loved Facetiming her kids and grandkids.”

Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this heartbreaking time.
