A local member of the Florida Democratic Party was arrested by U.S. Marshals on charges of possession of child pornography and other material related to child sexual abuse. Matthew Inman, Orange County’s Democratic Party treasurer, was arrested after horrific content was discovered on his phone and could face decades in prison. Inman, 39, was also a known LGBT activist.
“In October 2024, Inman traveled to Las Vegas and began talking online with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as the father of a 9-year-old boy. During this conversation, Inman expressed interest in meeting and sexually assaulting the purported child. He also sent [child sexual abuse material] videos to the undercover officer,” the U.S. Attorney General’s office said in a statement.
The Rainbow Democrats released a public statement following Inman’s arrest, stating they were “shocked” by the news. “We offer our condolences to any victims of child sexual abuse and hope justice will be served to the fullest extent of the law,” according to the organization’s board of directors. “We have suspended Mr. Inman from the Caucus. He has no acting role in any capacity with the organization as of now. He will be officially removed at our next general meeting.”
Similarly, the Orange County Democrats issued a statement addressing the arrest of their former treasurer. “We are deeply appalled and horrified by the news that Matthew Inman has been arrested on charges of sexual abuse involving a minor. We unequivocally condemn child sexual abuse in the strongest possible terms and hope that any victims involved receive the support and resources they need moving forward,” the party said.#
“After learning of the allegations against Mr. Inman, the Orange County Democratic Party acted swiftly to suspend him from all voluntary roles and responsibilities. We will continue to uphold the highest standards of accountability and integrity,” the statement further noted. Others reacted to the shocking news on social media.
The popular X account Shadow of Ezra wrote, “A Florida Democratic Party official has been arrested by U.S. Marshals on charges of possessing child po*n and child s*x abuse material. Matthew Inman, who served as Orange County’s Democratic Party treasurer and president of the Rainbow Democrats, was found with videos of children being s*xually abused on his phone.”
The post shed light on the disturbing details behind the allegations brought against Inman. “He also expressed interest in being with a fictional 9-year-old boy. He played a role in a nonprofit promoting LGBTQIA+ goodwill within the Democratic Party and was open about his hatred for Donald Trump. He now faces up to 20 years in federal prison,” the post added.
Another person wrote, “According to reports, Inman traveled to Las Vegas and began talking online with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as the father of a 9-year-old boy. During this conversation, Inman expressed interest in meeting and sexually assaulting the purported child. He also sent CSAM videos to the undercover officer. People like this should be locked up for life.”
One user said, ” It’s sickening to see someone in a position of trust, especially in a nonprofit meant to promote goodwill, involved in something so vile. Politics aside, this is about protecting kids, and there’s no excuse for this kind of behavior. Justice needs to be swift and severe.”
