Just after sunrise, I placed a cheerful gnome beneath my rose bushes, hoping to brighten the yard. Moments later, my grumpy neighbor Josh emerged.
โMy gnomes made the quiet feel less empty,โ I said.
He smiled. โMaybe theyโre not unlucky. Just misunderstood.โ
That evening, we placed the original gnome back by the roses.
โDinner?โ Josh asked. โYou can tell me which gnome is most cursed.โ
โOnly if you stop burning sticks of doom.โ
โDeal.โ
Sometimes peace doesnโt come from winning. It comes from laughing, painting, and sharing storiesโover dinner, and maybe, a gnome.
