Mom spots ‘God’s hand’ cradling baby’s head in ultrasound

In a story that has inspired many, a Kentucky mother says a recent ultrasound image brought her deep comfort and peace during a high-risk pregnancy.

Amanda Foster, 33, is preparing to welcome her fourth child, a baby boy named Kyler. In April 2022, she shared an ultrasound image on Facebook that quickly went viral—not just because of the medical update, but because of what she and her daughter believe they saw in the image: what appears to be a hand gently cradling the baby’s head.

According to Foster, the pregnancy has been an emotional journey. Years ago, she lost her first son, Xavier, at just 20 weeks due to a rare and life-threatening condition called Potter syndrome, which affects the development of a baby’s kidneys. The loss deeply impacted her, and she later learned the condition is more commonly seen in male infants.

Despite the heartbreak, Amanda and her husband Kyle went on to welcome two healthy daughters. In August 2022, they celebrated the birth of their son, Jay—who was born free of Potter syndrome, with healthy kidneys and strong development.

Now expecting another boy, Amanda says this pregnancy has brought its own challenges. Early tests revealed a heart abnormality, prompting regular checkups and high-risk monitoring. Each time before an ultrasound, Amanda says she prayed for strength and for her baby’s continued health.
