A family received a pleasant surprise when an unexpected animal strayed from its home and chose to rest on their porch. It’s always a mystery what kind of creature you might encounter just outside your door.
Last week, a seal pup was found outside a family’s home in Wellington, New Zealand. The adorable pup was spotted taking a cozy nap on their porch, as shared in a Facebook post by the Department of Conservation.
The Department of Conservation stated that the animal had a task to complete. It climbed up the stairs on the seawall, crossed a road, hiked up a footpath, a driveway, and finally another set of stairs before finding a place to take a nap.
It’s a rare occurrence to return home and discover a seal resting on your doorstep.
The kekeno, also known as the New Zealand fur seal, is not a true seal but rather closely related to the sea lion.
During the months of May through September in New Zealand, it is quite common to see young seals appearing like this. This period is referred to as “seal silly season” when both young pups and adult males venture away from their colonies.
During this time, these seals enjoy venturing out into the broader world. People in the area frequently come across seals on the streets, in public areas, and even inside their own houses.
What an adorable little seal! What a moment it would be to find that outside your front door!
