The lady has no physical abnormalities. Instead, her entire body is covered in tattoos resembling those done in prison. Despite her struggle to find employment and the constant verbal abuse she faces whenever she leaves her house, she persists in getting more tattoos, claiming she is addicted.

Melissa Sloan, a woman from Wales, is 46 years old and has been using a tattoo gun for the past 26 years. Despite the negative effects it has had on her life, she has no remorse and continues to get tattoos. Sloan acknowledges that society rejects her, but she remains determined to keep getting inked.
“It’s like when you have a [cigarette] or a drink, you get addicted. I can’t stop it now, it’s addictive, for me anyway. I just can’t stop it,” said Sloan, adding that since tattoo parlors started denying her, because she’s “beyond help,” she got her own kit. She continued, “I carry the [tattoo] gun around with me in the boot, I’ll get one in the car or anywhere.”
Despite not being able to find a job, Sloan persists in getting three “prison style” tattoos from her boyfriend every week, even though her body and face are now covered in somewhat messy ink. She currently has over 800 tattoos.
Sloan used to clean toilets in the past, but now she has moved on from those types of jobs.
“I can’t get a job. They won’t have me. I applied for a job cleaning toilets where I live and they won’t have me because of my tattoos…People have said I have never had a job in my life, I have had one once and it didn’t last long.” She continued, “But, if someone offered me a job tomorrow, I would go and work–I would take that offer.”
Sloan mentioned that besides struggling to find a job, she feels like an outsider as she faces verbal abuse and ridicule whenever she goes outside, with people staring and pointing at her.
“Worse, the more I have the more they think I’m a freak. They jump out of the way and I think ‘what are you doing that for?’ It’s horrible,” she said. “I expected this in life, I can’t fit in with people as I like to be me and I’m always going to be myself.”
Sloan says she can’t go to nearby bars or attend school functions where her kids, aged eight and 10, are participating. But that doesn’t slow her down.
“The kids say, ‘mum they’re looking at you’ and I say ‘take no notice of them,’” said the body art enthusiast, adding that her kids pick up on negative attitudes towards her. “They say my children will run away when they’re older, that’s heartbreaking.”
Sloan’s children are already developing a liking for body art, as she influences and encourages them to see her as a role model.
“They got some on their arms last night, they’ve got school so they will have to take them off,” Sloan said, Allowing kids to get temporary tattoos now, with the promise of permanent ones later on.“I tell them they’ll have better ones when they are older.”
Before getting tattoos, she had an average appearance. On Instagram, she shared pictures of herself prior to getting tattoos. She now looks drastically different and is hardly recognizable compared to before.
Tasteful body art is fine, but some individuals may take it too far. While it’s not good to judge, we can see why employers hesitate to have her as a brand representative. Hopefully, her children will learn from her errors and avoid feeling like outsiders later on.
