There are two types of people in this world, those who own a home and those who rent. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages, but there are times when uncertainty may set in.
A 75-year-old woman who rented a home for many years, Jane Sayner had one of those unexpected events and she wasn’t quite sure what would happen. She lived in Melbourne, Australia, and she rented a two-bedroom apartment for $250 a week.
The man who owned the home, John Perrett is a multimillionaire and he also is a very kind individual. Jane had lived in the home for about 25 years, and he had never raised the rent one time.
When the landlord died, however, she wasn’t sure how she would be able to get by with finding a new place. She knew that it would cost more, but it turned out she didn’t have to worry about it.
After her landlord passed away in September 2020, he did something that nobody could’ve expected. As a philanthropist, he had left millions of dollars to various charities, but he also did something for Jane.
It seems as if Jane was one of two tenants who had been in two properties for a very long time. He left the house to her, putting it in her name before he died.
She didn’t realize it but he had given her a call one day to get her full name. He said his solicitor was there and said he was going to leave her the unit. She thought she had heard it wrong, but she was absolutely right.
Since she lived there, she had always treated the place as if it was her own and now, she has the opportunity to live the rest of her life in that location.
