The nation was left stunned on Saturday, July 13, following the harrowing events at Trump’s campaign rally held at the Butler Farm Show grounds.
Approximately 10 minutes into his speech, the 78-year-old was struck by a bullet in the right ear amidst multiple gunshots.
Secret Service agents swiftly tackled Trump to the ground amid the chaos, while authorities neutralized the assailant.
The shooting resulted in the death of a male attendee and critically injured two other men.
Amidst the fallout of the event, an image of a twisted American flag that seemingly resembles an angel has captivated the internet, leading many to believe that the former President was under divine protection during the assassination attempt.
“The flag got tangled today at the Trump rally before Trump came on stage. Looks like an angel,” wrote X user @TheWakeninq, alongside a clip of the flag fluttering in the wind.
The video, which has amassed over 8 million views, sparked a wave of comments from those convinced it was a celestial sign.
One person commented: “God was watching over Trump yesterday for certain!”
A second person said: “We are living in historic times! The fingerprints of the divine all over.”
A third person added: “The Holy Spirit was definitely there protecting him yesterday.”
However, some were of a different mind as they believed that the flag resembled a symbol of the US.
“I think it looks more like an eagle,” one person said, with another saying: “Looks like a bald eagle flying.”
The flag was untangled before Trump took the stage in Pennsylvania, where he was subsequently shot and injured in an assassination attempt.
The gunman responsible for the assassination attempt has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
In a recent update, the FBI confirmed that Crooks “acted alone,” but investigators have not ruled out the possibility of “any co-conspirators associated with this attack.”
“At this time, there are no current public safety concerns,” the FBI statement reads.
“The FBI has not identified a motive for the shooter’s actions, but we are working to determine the sequence of events and the shooter’s movements prior to the shooting, collecting and reviewing evidence, conducting interviews, and following up on all leads. We have also obtained the shooter’s telephone for examination.”
FBI agents have searched Crooks’ home and vehicle to gather additional evidence. Suspicious devices found at both locations have been rendered safe by bomb technicians and are being evaluated at the FBI Laboratory.
The firearm used in the incident, described as an AR-style rifle, was “purchased legally,” and Crooks was “not known to the FBI prior to this incident.”
