McConnell falls down Senate stairs after voting to confirm Scott Turner as HUD Secretary. Unclear about injuries. But Fox is told he appears to be ok. McConnell was helped up by Sens. Steve Daines (R-MT) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).โ€

Some users on X, questioned whether it was time for McConnell to step down from politics after the incident. โ€œRumors are circulating in DC that @SenMcConnell fell yet once again on the stairs of the Senate Building. Mind you these are rumors, but seeing how the former leader has tumbled 3 times in the past year alone, one must inquire if retirement is in order,โ€ commentator Bryce Lipscombย said.

The American Tribune reportedย on a dispute between McConnell and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) in the days before the 2024 election. McConnell reportedly attacked the MAGA movement, leading Lee to retaliate.ย  โ€œI think Trump was the biggest factor in changing the Republican Party from what Ronald Reagan viewed, and he wouldnโ€™t recognize today,โ€ McConnell previously said.

โ€œTrump is appealing to people who havenโ€™t been as successful as other people and providing an excuse for that, that these more successful people have somehow been cheated, and you donโ€™t deserve to think of yourself as less successful because things havenโ€™t been fair,โ€ McConnell added. โ€œUnfortunately, about half the Republicans in the country believe whatever he says. I think Iโ€™m pretty safe in saying itโ€™s not just the Democrats who are counting the days until he leaves on January 20, but the Republicans as well.โ€

Mike Lee responded, โ€œMcConnellโ€™s attacks on Donald Trump & Rick Scott are indefensible.โ€ He added, โ€œThose running for Senate GOP leadership posts need to weigh in on this & commit never to sabotage Republican candidates & colleaguesโ€”particularly those who are less than two weeks away from a close election.โ€

The Utah Republican added, โ€œWe must have clarity from the candidates running to replace McConnell on where they stand on these attacks. They must be clear on how they plan to lead the conference, and on the role of its members.โ€ย  Lee said, โ€œThe Senate Republican leader is supposed to help Republicans, not undermine them. Sadly, weโ€™ve had too much of the latter. That must end now.โ€ He further stated, โ€œRemember: McConnellโ€™s superpac has withheld campaign support from Ted Cruz and Rick Scott this election season, an incomprehensible move for a Senate GOP โ€œstrong leaderโ€ who wants to keep Texas and Florida and gain a majority in the Senate.โ€
