Jimmy Carter Enters The Final Days In Hospice No Longer Waking Every Day

The world has been carefully watching Jimmy Carter and his health, especially since his wife, Rosalyn passed away a few months ago. Recently, it was reported by his grandson that his health is declining.

According to his oldest grandson, Jason Carter, his health has declined significantly in recent days and he is no longer awake on a daily basis. The family continues to stay by his side constantly, as they have done since he entered hospice in February 2023.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States and also was the governor of Georgia. Like many men in his position, he has been watched carefully and is getting all of the healthcare possible for his needs.

When his wife, Rosalyn passed away at the age of 96 in November, his health began going downhill significantly.

Jason Carter had the following to say: “After 77 years of marriage… I just think none of us really understand what it’s like for him right now. We have to embrace that fact, that there’s things about the spirit that you just can’t understand. [He’s] experiencing the world as best he can as he continues through this process.”

Despite the fact that his health is declining, the children visit him on a regular basis. His degree of alertness may change from one day to the next. In recent months, his grandson said that there has been ‘really no change’ in his level of awareness.

Jimmy Carter was an active individual and continued to be active into his early 90s. He taught Sunday school, was busy building homes for charity and regularly was seen up until 2020.

He was at his home in Plains, Georgia 16 months ago when he entered into hospice. He built that home with Rosalyn in 1961.

“[Plains] is the place that has given him the greatest support and it is the only place where he would go through this part of his life,” said Jason, who lives in Atlanta. “That’s his home in every way, and he really cherished that time and that support.

The property of the Carter home is deeded to the National Park Service. After his death, it will be turned into a museum.

His grandson confirmed that he will be buried alongside Roslyn when he passes. He went on to say: “I think the fact that he and my grandmother both came from that small town — it’s a 600 person village, really — and it’s not near any interstate and it is truly out in the country and it is a fundamental part of who he is and who he has been for his whole life. There is no other place in the world that he would be at peace other than Plains.

“It is such an American story… to go to Plains and see the house that my grandparents built and lived in for all their time and came home to after being president. It is a really incredible story to go from that little town to the White House and back.”
